The product advertising glossary
What is GMV?
Gross merchandise value is the value of merchandise transactions counted under a marketplace or business’s reporting definition.

A practical example
A marketplace may report the total order value before some cancellations, returns, fees, or seller costs are deducted.
How to use it
Read the platform’s exact definition. GMV is not the same as recognized revenue, cash received, or profit available to fund another campaign.
Put it in a creative brief
Write down the event, asset, or workflow you mean by GMV before sharing a brief or report. For campaign measurements, keep the source and reporting window with the number. For creative work, attach an example so the team can assess the same thing.
