The product advertising glossary

What is MER?

Marketing efficiency ratio commonly means total business revenue divided by total marketing spend over the same period. Some teams use a narrower spend definition.

By Drizzle team

A practical example

$40,000 in revenue divided by $10,000 in defined marketing costs gives a 4× MER.

How to use it

State whether spend includes agencies, creative, software, and salaries. MER helps track overall efficiency but does not isolate the incremental effect of a particular campaign.

Put it in a creative brief

Write down the event, asset, or workflow you mean by MER before sharing a brief or report. For campaign measurements, keep the source and reporting window with the number. For creative work, attach an example so the team can assess the same thing.
