Will an AI watermark or Content Credential survive export?

Visible watermarks, provenance metadata, and platform labels are different mechanisms. Check the actual exported file and published placement instead of assuming they travel together.
Identify which signal you mean
A visible watermark is part of the image the viewer sees. Content Credentials can carry provenance information associated with a file. A platform label may be applied in the publishing interface or through detected signals.
The C2PA FAQ explains that provenance metadata can be removed, and describes mechanisms that can help recover it. Missing metadata does not prove that a file was never generated or edited with AI.
Test the normal editing path
Keep an untouched source copy. Export through the editor and format you intend to use, then inspect the result with an appropriate provenance viewer and ordinary visual review. Repeat after the normal upload process where possible.
Record which tool or step changed the file. This is a preservation check, not a method for removing labels or evading disclosure.
Preserve the disclosure independently
Use the destination’s required disclosure controls and ensure any visible disclosure remains readable. Do not rely solely on embedded metadata when a rule asks for a viewer-facing statement. Keep source history and permissions with the campaign.
