Why CPM may rise after a new creative launches

By Drizzle team

A CPM change does not prove the new image or video caused an auction change.

Check the environment

Compare audience, placements, bid approach, campaign objective, season, and time window. A test that changes several of these cannot isolate creative.

Read delivery with response

A higher CPM may coexist with stronger click or purchase results. Compare the cost to reach the business outcome, not CPM in isolation.

Write the next test

Keep the delivery setup fixed where possible and change one creative idea. Record what the new asset shows that the previous one did not.

A worked example

A new product video launches on a holiday weekend and CPM rises from $11 to $16. That change happened alongside a seasonal auction shift, so it cannot be assigned solely to the video. Compare placement mix and audience first. If purchase CPA improves despite higher CPM, the new creative may still be useful, but the test needs its delivery context recorded.

Decision check

Keep the numerator, denominator, date range, currency, and attribution definition with every reported result. A metric describes one part of the shopper path; compare it with visits, purchases, and order contribution before changing the creative or budget. State what the observation cannot establish.
